At the start of the term we got into groups of four for our topic activity. We had to do a webquest which involved our group getting US $10,000 and having to plan a 14 day holiday. We chose our continent out of a hat and started out holiday there. We had to go to three different countries in our continent. Here are some presentations of what we did.

Trust Building

This term we have spent a lot of time doing confidence and trust building activities. We have found activities and tried them outside. One of our favourites is "mine field" where your team mates have to give you directions while somebody is blindfolded.

Maths Strategies

This year we have been learning to show our understanding of our maths knowledge and strategies by making video tutorials. If we can explain clearly what we have learnt, then it shows that we have a good understanding of it. Here is an example of one of our maths tutorials.

In our reading activities, one of the tasks we have been doing is to create character profiles based on the themes and messages we have learnt from the text. Here is an example of the kind of character profiles we have been creating.

Room 6 Collaboration

In our class we try and collaborate in our learning activities as much as we can. Here is a clip of an example of how we do this.

Maths

We have been learning to explain how we understand different strategies. To do this we have been using an ipad app called "explain everything". Here is an example of one of our presentations.

Reading

Recently we have been using lyrics from songs as out guided reading texts. Last week we read "What I Am" by Will.I.Am. As part of our reading we had to present what we had learned. We did this as collaborative group work. The first thing we had to decide was how we were going to present our learning. Then we had to plan how we were going to do it and who was going to do what jobs. Here they are. We hope you like them.

Kapa Haka 2014

This year we competed at the West Coast Primary Schools Kapa Haka competition. It was held in Westport. We had an awesome time and did a really good job. Check us out.

Last term our teacher Mr Hickey had an idea that we could redesign our desks. So we got rid of the old ones and made new ones. This video will take you through, what we did.

School league tournament

A couple of weeks ago Awahono school put in a team into the School league tournament and went undefeated and won the final 4-8 (It went to extra time)

Hi guys! We are back on the "Mathletics Hall of Fame" and we are so glad to be on there. We are the 49th in the world and 30th in New Zealand. 

Midland Line Athletics Day

On the 10th of March our school competed at the Midland Line Athletics Champs. Our school did really well with lots of the kids qualifying for the West Coast Athletics Champs. It was a really nice day and we had lots of fun

Midland Line Swimming Event

On the third of March our school participated at the midland Line Swimming event. We had a really successful day with our relay teams coming first and third and a large number of our swimmers qualifying for the West Coast Champs. Here are a few photos that were taken on the day. We hope you enjoy.

Room 6 Literacy Circle Summary
